Heal an infected or decayed tooth with root canal therapy
Do you experiencing pain, or are your teeth bothered by heat, cold or biting too hard? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, a root canal may be required. Many people are under the impression that root canal therapy is a scary and painful procedure. However, root canal therapy is a minimally invasive procedure with little pain associated with the in-office procedure. For patients in Tyler needing a root canal, the experienced dental team at Smith Dental Care will make the process smooth with very little discomfort.
Symptoms of an Infected Tooth:
- A bad taste in your mouth
- Increased sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures
- Increased sensitivity to sweets
- Tooth pain, especially when biting or chewing
What is a root canal?
The pulp, located under your tooth’s enamel, and within the dentin, carries the tooth’s nerve, veins, arteries and lymph vessels. Root canals are very small divisions that branch off from the top of the pulp to the tip of the root. A tooth has at least one but no more than four root canals.
If the pulp becomes infected due to a fracture or deep cavity, bacteria can grow. To save the tooth, our Tyler dentist needs to remove the pulp, and the canals need to be sterilized and filled. A dental crown is usually necessary to complete the restoration of the tooth.
Root canal therapy takes about two hours and may require two visits to our Tyler cosmetic dentistry practice.
